Earlier this month, we reported that the entire Galaxy A (2016) series smartphone will get the Android Nougat update. Nougat update to the 2016 smartphones is expected, but you won’t expecting that a 2014 model will get it. So here’s is some good news for the owners of the Samsung Galaxy A5 from 2014, the handset will receive the Nougat update soon.
Optus, an Australian carrier, has confirmed that the Galaxy A5 units from 2014 will taste the Nougat update. According to their software upgrade blog, they’re testing Android 7.0 Nougat for the handset, and if everything goes well it’s expected to roll out in end of January 2017. The Galaxy A5 launched running Android 4.4 KitKat, and and is currently running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. So if this actually happens, the original A5 will be one of the longest-supported Samsung smartphones ever.
We expect that the Nougat roll out to Galaxy A5 won’t be limited to Australia and will be released globally on respected carriers. Coming to other Galaxy A series smartphone from 2014, there is no info regarding Nougat update for them.
