Chromecast with Google TV rolling out new update of 2024

TikTok casting, casting to neighboring devices, built-in support for additional TVs, and more features are elevating Chromecast.

After unveiling a new remote control, Google has come up with a new update on Chromecast Google TV. In the last five months, there have been various updates and Google is still outpacing the 2023 cadence.

The new Chromecast with Google TV update includes the April 2024 security patch released by Google. It came out in early April, after the last release.

Updated to April 2024 (from March 2024), STTE.240315.002 (from STTL.240206.002) is the Android security patch level. The changelog has not yet been updated to reflect it.

The 134MB update from today falls between the 72.55MB patch from earlier this year and the 169MB Fast Pair + Audio output switcher release from February. Further, the release note mentions “Other bug fixes and performance improvements.”

To activate this new feature, all you need to do is Select System Update under Settings > System > About on your Chromecast with Google TV. The Voice Remote has also received a minor firmware upgrade (26.6 -> 26.7): Settings > Remotes & Accessories.
