On a daily basis, we all get hundreds and thousands of mail in our accounts. The major reason behind these emails is subscriptions to different platforms. Whenever you create an account on any app or sign up for a new platform, you often subscribe to newsletters. As a result, you get frequent notifications from those sites and fill your Gmail with important as well as unnecessary emails.
To ease it all for you, Google is releasing a new option “Updates” in Gmail for your Android and iOS devices. The purpose behind rolling out this feature is to help your users focus majorly on the emails that matter the most.
Earlier, Google introduced Primary, Promotional, and social categories to ease the task. Updates and forums were also introduced along with Primary inbox but those who only desire a list of messages in reverse chronological order may disable those categories.
The “Updates” mailbox currently contains “Personal, auto-generated updates, including confirmations, receipts, bills, and statements,” although Google is currently improving its functionality.
Emails with less priority that might not require urgent attention, such as automated mileage reports from airlines or confirmations of account creation, will be moved from the Primary to the Updates inbox by Gmail.
This is designed to help prioritize the content that truly shows up in the Primary mailbox.
Gmail is currently rolling out this new Updates inbox after testing the change and receiving excellent responses. As soon as the update is available, Google will display a banner in the Primary inbox threadlist with an explanation.
It’s important to note that this new Updates mailbox will activate automatically if you currently have Primary, Social, and Promotions enabled—which is the default for most users. Go to Gmail Settings > email account > Inbox categories to turn it off.
