Google starts rolling out May Android security update for Nexus and Pixel devices

Google has started rolling out a new OTA update to Pixel and Nexus devices that brings Android security patch for the month of May. Google has also made available the the factory images as part of monthly Android Security release for these devices. The devices getting the latest Android security OTA update include Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 5X, Pixel C, and Nexus Player.

Along with the latest security patch, the new update also fixes several critical issues, including issues in Remote code execution vulnerability in Mediaserver, and Remote code execution vulnerability in Framework APIs, Mediaserver, Audioserver and more.You can check out the complete set of issues and fixes in the latest update in the Android Security Bulletin here.

Here are the New builds for the Pixel and Nexus devices with May 2017 Android Security update:

  • Pixel and Pixel XL (N2G47O)
  • Nexus 6P (N2G47O)
  • Nexus 5X (N2G47O)
  • Nexus 6 (N6F27C)
  • Nexus 9 Wi-Fi & LTE (N4F27B )
  • Pixel C (N2G47O)

The OTA update is rolling out gradually, it may take some time to reach your device. if you’re in a rush, then you can download full factory images or OTA images for these Pixel and Nexus devices from the Google Developers website by heading to Source links below to manually update your device.

Also, Google recently announced that there would be no guaranteed Android version updates after October 2018 and security updates after October 2019 for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones.
