[How to] disable PDF viewer in Google Chrome

In Google Chrome, PDF viewer helps to view the PDFs more quickly. It is a built-in  plugin. But unfortunately, you don’t have access to all functionalities similar to other tools like Adobe Reader etc. Most of the people search for the steps to disable this plugin in Google Chrome. We will tell you the steps to change the Chrome settings to disable the PDF viewer. Please follow the below steps to do the same.

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Type ‘about:plugins’ into URL.
  • Find ‘Chrome PDF Viewer’ in the list.pdf-viewer-1
  • Click the ‘Disable’ link to prevent PDFs from loading within Chrome.
  • Close the window and try to open the PDF file.
  • It will not be open within the Chrome.

That’s it! Now you will be able to choose the option to download PDFs and open them with a standalone reader (like Adobe Reader etc.) you have installed on your computer. In future, whenever you want to enable this plugin, on the same place, you will get an option to ‘Enable’ this.
