The “limits” feature on Instagram, which allows you to block direct messages and comments from accounts that might be bothering you, is getting bigger. Instagram will now mute all incoming messages, with the exception of those from individuals on your list of close friends, rather than merely displaying content from new followers or non-followers.
The real purpose of rolling out limits in Instagram was to assist creators in managing harassment campaigns. However, now anyone can utilize the function if they are receiving unsolicited messages and remarks from bullies and other negative individuals. It might provide a means of blocking outside noise without cutting individuals off from a helpful community.
As a result, now you will only see DMs, tags, and mentions from the individuals on your list when you restrict interactions from everyone but your closest friends. While they can still connect with your postings, users who are not on your list of close friends won’t be able to view these updates. Also, these accounts won’t be aware that you have blocked their content. The restricted comments and direct messages are also yours to peruse or ignore.

You can restrict accounts on Instagram for a maximum of four weeks at a time, though you can extend it. Tapping your profile, choosing Limited interactions from the hamburger menu in the top-right corner of the screen, will enable limits. From there, you may turn on limitations for Accounts that aren’t following you, for Recently Followed Accounts, and for All Accounts except Close Friends.
Instagram’s restrict function, which enables you to hide comments from users and also stop them from tagging or mentioning you, is being improved. These new features coincide with the US government’s growing concern for Instagram’s youthful user base’s safety. Meta launched a new tool earlier this year that by default stops adults from texting kids on Facebook and Instagram. The business also made the decision to remove content related to eating disorders and suicide from both of its teen platforms.
