No guaranteed Android version updates for Pixel and Pixel XL after October 2018, Google updates on it’s support website

Google has updated it’s support website with end of service dates for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Android update schedule for Pixel phones are mostly the same as with any Nexus device – Android OS version updates for two years, security updates for three years after the Google Store runs out of stock. So according to Android Support page, Both the Pixel and Pixel XL phones will receive guaranteed Android version updates through October 2018 and the security updates through October 2019.

On it’s support page Google has clearly mentioned that,

“Devices get Android version updates for at least 2 years from when the device became available on the Google Store. After 2 years, we can’t guarantee additional updates.”

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones were launched in October of last year, so following to Android update schedule in the past, there is nothing to surprise. But the word ‘guaranteed’ leaves a little hope behind it, if the Google wants to, it could update the Pixel phones to the most current Android version for some more time, but if it wants.

As for the security updates, the company gives additional one year to it’s phones to get security updates,

“For at least 3 years from when the device first became available, or at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device, whichever is longer.”

So what’s your take on Google’s Android update schedule for it’s devices? Do you think Google is too quick to stop Android support for it’s devices? Share your views via comment section….
